The Melbourne Convention Centre is a state of the art, purpose built complex with excellent conference and exhibition facilities. The Centre is superbly situated on the banks of Melbourne's Yarra River, close to the heart of the CBD and just 30 minutes from Melbourne's International Airport.

Entitlements

Registration Fee entitles delegates to the following:
* Attendance at all Congress Sessions
* Morning and afternoon teas each day
* Lunches each day (except Wednesday)

* Abstract Booklet and Program

Acknowledgement of Registration

All registrations will be acknowledged in writing with confirmation of delegate requirements according to the submitted registration form and upon receipt of full payment. The registration Form attached acts as a Tax Invoice.

Payment

Full payment should accompany registration forms, with cheques/bank drafts made payable to "International Congress of Genetics 2003 P/L". Accepted credit cards are Mastercard, Visa, Amex and Bankcard. Please print the delegate name and organisation on the back of cheques and bank drafts.

Please note all prices are in Australian dollars and are GST inclusive. International delegates can claim the GST component on departing Australia. Payments made over the Internet are to a secure site.

Cancellation and Refunds

Cancellations of Registration fees and events received in writing by Friday 30 May 2003 will be accepted and fees refunded less A$100.00 administration fee. Cancellations after this date cannot be accepted. However transfer of registration to another person will be accepted. All cancellations must be notified in writing to the Congress Secretariat.

Climate

Melbourne enjoys a temperate climate with a cool winter. The average maximum temperature in July is 13°C (55°F) and the average minimum temperature is 6°C (43°F). Delegates travelling further north in the country will experience considerably warmer temperatures. For full details on the weather in Australia visit the site of the Bureau of Meteorology.

Visa Information

With the exception of New Zealand citizens travelling on New Zealand passports, all foreign nationals must obtain a visa/ETA before travelling to Australia. (New Zealand citizens are issued with a visa on arrival in Australia.)

SARS

There have been very few confirmed cases of SARS in Australia. All individuals confirmed to have had the disease have fully recovered following treatment. Australia has not implemented travel restrictions affecting incoming passengers. However, medical staff are available in all airports to check incoming passengers with symptoms of respiratory illness. For the latest information on the international SARS situation visit the World Health Organization site.

The operating times for the Registration and Information desk will be advised shortly.

Name Badges

All delegates will receive a name badge upon registration. This badge is the official pass and must be worn to obtain entry to all Congress sessions, social events and associated activities.

Car Parking

700 undercover parking spaces are available at the Melbourne Convention Centre, accessed by Siddley Street, open 24 hours, 7 days a week.

Local Travel

Melbourne Airport is located 20 km or 25 minutes from central Melbourne. A taxi fare is approx A$30 to A$35. A shuttle bus, SkyBus, operates 24 hours a day between the Airport and the city centre. The service runs approximately every 30 minutes at a cost of A$12 each way. Drop off points are located throughout the city centre close to hotels and facilities.

International Travel

Delegates are encouraged to "shop around" for one of the competitive packages that can be obtained. There are a number of Internet sites that may assist in gaining a discounted air fares.

Insurances

Registration fees do not include personal travel or health insurance of any kind. It is strongly recommended that when registering for the Congress and booking travel that delegates make arrangements for appropriate travel and health insurance. The Organising Committee and the Congress Secretariat do not take responsibility for any delegate failing to insure.

Air Travel Within Australia

Corporate Travel Management (CTM) has been appointed the official travel agency for the XIX International Congress of Genetics. Early booking is recommended.
